CB500/550 / CB 550 F2 1978 FOR SALE
« on: August 25, 2022, 07:05:08 AM »
Hi,

I thought I'd put it out on here first.

I'm close to P/exing my 550 and have been offered £5250 in P/Ex, so maybe if anyone interested I'd take the same in cash/transfer.

I've recently changed oil/filter, new battery, nos left switch ( from Oddjob) new throttle cables, brake pads, it's not a show bike but is in very good condition.

As you may have seen from another post, I lost the r/h side panel but have bought a new one and will have it painted before the sale. Also have grabrail fitted and new switch since these photos.

When you zoom in at the connectors inside the headlamp bucket, you will see other blind female connectors for your device both BLACK and GREEN.

Will have a look inside the headlight bucket.
Thanks.
I did indeed find a spare black and green female bullet connectors, so snipped off my eye connectors and soldered 2 male bullets.
Job done, comes on with ignition.

Thanks all.

Good luck with that.
Luckily I have them but was struggling for #15 with small diameter stem for UK indicators.

It could be the cork parts of the friction discs are swelling with the heat. Could be they are getting real old and this is causing them to swell.

Cheers, will prob wait for winter to strip down.

Thats why i asked what oil, gearboxes on the 550 are pretty robust, i have heard of ,but not seen, of odd gears breaking dogs off but that dont give false neutrals
Good to know,  thanks. 👍

Suspect clutch more than gears TBH. Especially if it's related to heat.
Will check the clutch adjustment at both ends.

It seems smooth and light.

As mentioned above, straighten bracket so it's perpendicular to the plate, then run the tap through the hole and offer the bolt to the tap to check the threads are the same before trying to force the bolt in. After tapping it should go in by hand.

Depends on the exact spec of the oil, diesel 10w40 is better than petrol 10w40

I'll check when I go into garage tomorrow, seem to recall it could be diesel 10W40.

Is this a common trait?  Don't recall my original in 1976 giving issues !!

On my model it is here (blue arrow in pic below). It is conveniently positioned close to the tool tray, where I keep my USB connection for when I need it.

Perfect, thanks.  Not checked yet but If I haven't got a spare female I'll join it to a convenient black.

Oil and filter are about 200miles old.

10-40 Mineral I think......

CB500/550 / CB550F2 1978 Gears

After riding and the engine/gearbox are hot, I've noticed the gears are harder to engage and quite often get a missed gear between 1-2 and 3-4.

Could this be due to selector forks or worn dogs on gears, or clutch possibly.

Any ideas ??

Thanks guys.

Will look for a black wire close to where I want to mount.
