Hi, I also had this problem and found an exact fit with a phosphor bronze bush aftermarket (see photo) - reasonable price I thought (SKF PRM202315 Metric Plain Wrapped Bronze Bush 20x23x15mm; £5.33, Shipping: £1.99, VAT @ 20%:£1.47, Total: £8.79) from Simply Bearings.

Thanks Ted, definitely your old one - once all the Blue was removed to bare metal, the rust treated, various bad dents remedied & filled, primed, 3 coats red then 3 coats clear it’s come up really well - internally it’s in great condition & miles better than my original one! Photos of process and where repairs were needed!

Ok, went the Milano Red route with the paint I had, think it looks ok but thought the red should be a more red colour (if you know what I mean!) - photos attached. Bike now finished (apart from number plate & rigorous road test!!), my thanks to all who’ve helped over the last few years, I’ll mention Ted as he got me out of a hole with replacement (good condition) tank!

Hello all - trying to get the nearest colour match to original 75 cb400f light Ruby Red - various forums and answers here state Honda Milano Red R81, this I’ve got but comparing with the inside of a side panel the R81 is definitely a more “plum” colour. Somewhere else suggests Honda r-25, does anyone recognise that as a named colour at all please before I order another 500ml (full repaint not started - yet) or any greater knowledge of the actual colour?

Many thanks to Ted for a replacement tank - stripping old paint off now and it’s much better than the one I started with (welded panel underneath, covered in epoxy, lots of dents and dings) - this one will keep to my standards better I think!!

Hi All
Coming towards the end of my CB400f rebuild and time to look at the petrol tank - scabby in places with small rust spots coming through the paint (Light Ruby Red). So, stripped all the paint off plus an enormous amount of surface filler only to find a hardened “black” coloured skin (epoxy?) over the whole surface - looks to me like tank lining but on the outside! Anyone come across this before?
I suspect if I remove it I’ll find lots of pinholes - it wasn’t leaking before but to me it’s been “bodged” so reluctant to leave as is!
Anyone got an early CB400F (75) going spare - colour & paint condition irrelevant

If anyone is into 3d printing I think it’s possible with TPU filament - 3d drawing might be problematic unless you’re proficient in CAD (or similar)!

This is what I used - 920571011 from MSP (I may have had to shorten it but can’t remember!) - New Year memory lapse - it was of course the cam chain I had to shorten not this primary (that would have been difficult to say the least!!).

Also thanks to all other comments - I have a float height guage, it was just the description of what angle to have the carbs at for setting the “close” position!

Hi All, can someone supply the relevant photos from Nurse Julie’s float height set up please, they’re not appearing when I go to the relevant tips & tricks post!
Also - has anyone ever measured the fuel quantity of a correctly set up float height? I’m getting 40ml on each carb - does that sound about right for CB400F float height setting?

That’s interesting this should just come up - I’m just about to start the process of re-painting my 75 CB400F the “Light Ruby Red”. Searching through the previous forums & information it seems that Honda “Milano” Red is a close match - I’ve just bought a touch up can of this to do some comparisons. General consensus it’s a one step colour rather than vase coat/top coat process - can anyone confirm maybe?

Thanks Laverda Dave - just tried to buy it but because I’m in the UK they won’t sell to here unless I’m spending more than £135 (apparently it’s a VAT issue)!
