Ladies, Gents \o Happy almost Friday! So here I am again, I still have the old 550 I've removed the electric tray that used to have the motogadget blue and the bike of course, complained a lot as I don't have the tool tray anymore and the panel filter was fully exposed, too much air, no air pressure.... I tried to buy a tool tray from an eBay auction, but it went on to sell for > £50. That + I don't really have use for the tool tray, as I rather have the hondaman ignition box sitting there, I've decided to try an print a lid, with the same intake port as the OEM. It is currently printing, I will post when it arrives and I try it on the bike. If it works: - I think we could add it to the Aladdin's cave for future use. - Could potentially expand to be a full tool tray cheers o/

Welcome back, and quite amazing that it was kept and made its way back to you. I was a bit afraid of disassembling my carbs to do a full service. My bike had a symptom that felt stuck at specific rpm and couldn't get a proper sync. As I had decided to wait for winter, I've just been running it "Italian tune up" style and for my surprise, after more than 1 month stopped, the issue is gone \o/. So I will do a proper balancing now and see, might not need to open the carbs... cheers o/

Hello hello!
I use it. It is a very robust box, simple installation and efficient. (recommended by Roo o/) I will keep doing the timing adjustment as I've learned to like it.
Do you have any doubts about the need or setup?

Thanks guys! @Bryanj, Thanks!! The bike wasn't running for a long time so I will see how it feels after 2 tanks and ping you. Any refurb I plan to do will not involve cosmetics (I want it pretty inside ) Cheers o/

Hello hello o/ Happy Monday! So, I've concluded *"what I can do myself" on my bike and during this process, I lost count of how many bolts I needed because I had to drill them out or they simply weren't there. Anyone in that situation have a look at https://www.accu.co.uk/. They have everything, you just need to know the specs/size of what you want. *(don't really need, but will go for a carb refurb and engine refurb probably - need to find a garage near Frome, accepting recommendations) Cheers o/

Hello and happy Friday!!
Thanks everyone \o/ I feel part of the family already 🤠
I’ll start a thread to show my “progress†😅 I am very self conscious about any work I do, and so far I am really not proud of it. But even if only to show people what not to do or give ideas, I’ll do it.
I chose motogadget because I feel I am too dumb to figure out all wiring and my loom was full of cut cables. Not going to use anything else apart from alarm.
I am around £700 over budget 😅🥹 But happy and I’ll not drink until the bike is ready to help with costs
Thank you all and I’ll keep you posted on the “restoration†thread.
Enjoy your weekend o/

Hello, good morning and happy Thursday!! After a few years without a bike (prioritising a house purchase), and another at least 2 years looking for a GL1000/1100... I bought a 1976 CB550 \o/. She will probably be named "Sara", I need to see how she looks after everything done Romulo here, I can say that coming from the MX5 club (not bad there), I am impressed with the amount of knowledge sharing and attention, and fun you guys have (I do love an oil thread (and fuel) but will not dare ever to start one). Happy to say hello and go for a ride at any time. *After my bike is re-assembled 😅 My idea was to buy a running bike that needed basic service (oils, filters, refurb brake) and enjoy it before doing a full restoration. BUT, after having it delivered I could see that the seat, although original is not for the model, there were a few too many electric cables "trimmed". I've decided to strip it down and go for "my approach to a full restoration". Includes: - Front brake refurb and direct braided hose to caliper - Hel really helps with the custom service. I've also added a brake switch to the caliper to simplify everything
- Fork spring and oil + shocks from Hagon
- The original idea was to keep the original electrics, so I bought new handlebar + switch gear (Classic bike shop), but ended up deciding for M-unit and replacing everything related: switch, turn signals, tail light and everything to led from Classic car Leds. I am keeping the airbox as I like it, but I am making custom air filters for the top and to replace the one that separates the air/oil coming back from the engine
- Because of the new switch gear, I had to buy a clutch lever and a throttle assembly, not too worried how it will look at the moment
- New seat from Texavina, as I don't have the hinge (very hard to find/buy), I've decided to go 3D printing, I have printed a model waiting the seat to arrive to see how it will go
- I bought a NGK HT lead join/splitter to fix one bad cable, but whilst the bike is stripped, I might consider buying coils that can have "plugged cables instead of fixed ones (accepting any advice here)
- The bike doesn't have its original colour (brown) and I am pretty sure I will go with BRG and will see
 - I also don't like the original 4 to 4 exhaust, so I will probably go Delkevic 4 to 1
Apart from that, not going to chop anything, going to just clean, patch/treat//protect and polish all old chrome for now, replace the tyres and, not do anything else to it for at least 1 year (replenish funds). *I will most probably sell all the original parts I've removed and the new switchgear I bought. Feel free to ping me about that or anything else. Thanks for the space o/
