CB350/400 / CB350 Woes!« on: July 30, 2024, 10:41:32 PM »
Hi all,
I purchased a 1972 CB350 knowing it had the classic oil burning issue. See the video (can't download - too large). I expected to give it a re-bore and all would be well, however it turned out to have been re-bored to +1mm already during it's rebuild. The ring end gaps were 0.5mm so I expect that the re-bore clearance was too large. So, I found a used barrel on eBay thinking I could hone it and it would be OK, I bought some standard pistons from Cruisin and cleaned up the bores - the ring end gap with the new rings is already 0.35mm. So, (getting boring now) I decided to hone the bores to + 0.25mm and I have bought some new pistons from CMS. I have a lisle hone which will do the job with a course stone and I'll be starting tomorrow with a view to a super close piston clearance of 0.02mm... I suppose the question is - will this fix it?? Tony
