Thanks for the words of wisdom, I had an RD 350 YVPS stolen from my garage many years ago by a toe rags that just took it up the woods and wrecked it for a laugh , the insurance company gave me about a thousand pounds less than it was worth.

The insurance company is only as good as your last claim but they are very efficient in taking your money for years and they all stick together with so called knock for knock etc.

I’ll try and find one that deals with classic bikes as per advise thanks everyone for your input, at least I won’t need to pay Road tax and MOT for this bike .

I had the same issue last week one cylinder not firing turned out to be the carb putting too much fuel into the piston so carbs out and changes the float fuel valve that wasn’t closing properly and flooding the carb.
After replacing valve and reassembly started up with no issues.

With regards to repairs to rubber I did repair the rubber holder of my flasher unit using an old inner tube as a patch and just using the glue from a bicycle puncture repair kit and it is holding up very well.

I would think you could make a replacement rear fuel tank rubber by using thin strips of rubber bonded together.
If it’s done in layers like a sandwich I am sure you could manufacture one without too much trouble and bond it together using vulcanised rubber glue just a thought and well worth a try, it might not look pretty but you won’t see it any away.

Ok I have done the research and you cannot 3d print rubber as I suspected but there are small injection moulding companies that do small runs but obviously you would need to get the injection mould manufactured which is the expensive bit but once that is manufactured the cost of the individual items will be fairly reasonable I would think.

So it just depends on how many you have manufactured so let’s say a mould costs £500 one off cost  ( just my guess) then this cost would obviously be divided by the qty required let’s say 100 so £5 each plus materials and time but I would have thought that you could probably get a part made for around £15 would be my guess .

There is a small company in Oxford when I get a minute I will make an enquiry, really is just depends on demand to see if it’s cost effective to get them made.

I have not heard of 3D printing of rubber items but I will do some research, as you say some of the prices of some items are ridiculous.

CB350/400 / Bike valuation for insurance purposes
« on: October 03, 2025, 08:40:59 AM »
Hi everyone

Looking at getting my bike back on the road but have just been considering the valuation of my bike for insurance purposes.
This is very subjective and can vary a great deal as your bike is only worth what someone is prepared to pay for it, is there a way of getting an accurate valuation  ?

You may know an insurance company that is used to dealing with older bikes to get a fair valuation.

Hi Guys airbox fitted now with wood and hair dryer method many thanks for the advice, just started the engine for the first time since total engine rebuild and tuned the carbs and adjusted the points with a strobe sounds great as I still have the original exhaust sand had a good day today.

Hopefully will get it back on the road in the next few weeks just need to sort out the seat and a few bits and bobs but all looking good .

Ok thanks , I think it’s being more difficult because I am using the original rubber boots I am sure if they were new they would fit a little easier.

CB350/400 / Air box fitting
« on: September 30, 2025, 07:10:20 PM »
I can’t believe how difficult it is to fit the air box on the Cb400 f.
First I fitted the carbs and then tried to fit the air box and trying to get the air box rubber joints to fit is externally difficult , the outside ones go on but the two middle ones cylinder 2 and 3 always push back as they come into contact with the carb spigots.

So there must be a trick / tool to make the fitting easier, I have heated the rubber boots and also put a little silicon grease on the outside of the carb spigots and I have managed to fit the air box but the middle two are not fully home.

I am thinking of make a tool to support the back of the air box while I push the air box home, any advice will be very welcome.

£80 doesn’t sound too bad to me I do appreciate there is a lot of prep to do to get a nice finish and the actual plating process takes quite a bit of time.

Can anyone recommend a decent ultrasonic cleaner for carbs etc, I did have one a few years ago and it was a cheaper Chinese device,
It did clean the parts but the results were not as good as I expected so I sold it, this time I’ll spend a little more money and try and find a better quality product which will achieve the desired results.
