CB350/400 / Re: Fork Seals

Incidentally, here is a picture of the positioning of my front reflectors of which the left one catches the tank.
Another possibility would be dinged steering limiters on frame head and/or lower triple...

Naaaw, from a new range of paint "looks like oil" available at patina emporium  :) shares a shelf with "true tartan" paint, along with "rust in-a can"  for that just failed MOT look chic.
Ah, so that's like the $ 400,- pair of jeans with fake mud on them... I see...  :o

Although I think it perhaps looks a bit silly on newish stuff that wants to pretend to look older.
I too fail to see the point of that rat-rod look...  :o

It can't be for the sake of reliability, as the RH fork seal is leaking significantly...  ???

Personally when I was an MOT tester I’d most likely have failed it for oil mist, if it was enough to leave a ring I would have wondered how long that had been leaking like that and how much that loss of oil would have degraded the suspension.
Well, its progressing...
On my '00 ST both fork seals failed shortly one after another while up in Norway... they do have some nasty roads up there...
So I grew the routine of rinsing down rotors, calipers & pads with brake cleaner twice a day...
By the time we made it back home (Austria) both fork bottoms were FUBAR at the inside/bore...  :-\

Happy memories of many holidays in Austria - last one in 2024 but only as far as the Salzkammergut (Fuschl) on the 350 Forza Scoot - all the way from Orkney!
Not a lot of payload and peaking at 90mph... brave  ;)
(yeah, I'm kinda spoiled on my fat ST...  :D)
We're also kinda spoiled with all the scenery and twisty alpine roads around here... if only everything wouldn't be so clogged up with tourists all the time  ;D
Grossglockner? Nah! Queues and gridlocked all the way up as well as down the other side... at max very early in spring, or pretty late in fall/winter...  ???
The vast availability of GPS/satnav and Pedelec's didn't improve things... now every flat-lander "thinks" he can ride passes like Stelvio...  :-\
To find some peace and quiet one has to go far... Scandinavia, Scotland... avoid major cities...  8)

Never noticed before that you are in Wien!  Many happy times with the GoldWing along the Wachau (Dürnstein of course!) and out as far as Neusiedl and Weiden
Born and raised  8)
Roaming all over Europe since I got my first ST1100 in '92... love the Brit Isles, just did (another) Scotland run in '24 (with ze GF on her NT700VA in tow  ;) )...

Depending on what you require...
P/N 16010-KR6-305
https://www.cmsnl.com/products/gasket-set_16010kr6305/
or:
P/N 16010-405-004

(I'd keep the OEM brass in service...)

« on: June 26, 2026, 11:05:52 AM »
I may have put too much lube on the switch or the wrong type or it’s just a bit of a naff design.
Some lubricants/grease might behave dielectric...
I use silicone grease where plastic moves on plastic, marine grease for metal on metal/plastic, and wipe contact patches with a Q-tip soaked in a drop ACF-50...

LOL! You guys are cracking me up!  ;D

When I come home from the shed my GF is all over me...  :o
mixed scents of exhaust, petrol, engine oil, brake/parts cleaner stuck in my clothes and the remnants of a once great society of hair... 8)

With work-pants in the hamper, the aroma also lingers in the bathroom for a while... ;)
