My experience of the inside of the Honda brake lines was that the braiding was not steel, more like nylon or even cotton. It was white looking iirc. I could watch the lines expand under pressure, which is why most got braided stainless steel lines back in the 70s.

Bushes new Dom? If so genuine Honda?
Yes the gap looks excessive but with you saying you might struggle to find a really thin washer I presumed it was an illusion. There should be a small amount of movement allowed Dom, as the arm lifts the shock has to change it's angle accordingly, so both upper and lower mounts must be able to rotate a little. 4

Coils are powered through the kill switch. Open the headlight and see if the switch has power and if so it's coming out of the black/white wire in the headlight. If not the switch is most likely dirty, simple to clean if it is. You could jump the kill switch by jumping a black wire into the black/white wire and see if it fires up, ignition switch on of course.

Power to coils on the black/white wire?

If the gap is that small that finding a washer could be a problem then it's not vital a washer is fitted.

The lower mount must be able to move slightly, so don’t lock them in place if you do use washers.

Maybe it was the seat which was longer, I do know they won’t mix and match

I seem to recall the F tank being longer than the K. Fitted one on my 500 and the seat wouldn’t shut so had to fit the 550 seat as well before it would close ok. If you fit a K tank with the 550 seat you’ll end up with a gap between the two.
No news on that seat yet, he’s ringing me at the weekend though. 10

Mine were done by Camcoat in Warrington for £150 a pair in CG-Gold. However that price is over 2 years old now and I expect it's gone up. Mine are still pristine after 2 years of hard use. Not so much last year due to the illness
![]() I can recommend it, had the switchgear halves done in satin black and they look exactly like the Honda colour when new. Also resistant to brake fluid which helps with the right hand switch. Paint is thin enough that the engravings are still very visible so easy to colour in afterwards. 11

I had the cast wheels in my cb1300 ceramic coated Dave. It’s more resistant to scratches and chips than powder and the coat is a lot thinner. Cost is about the same iirc. Bearings out btw and all weights removed.

Bedding new pads in correctly can dramatically improve these old systems. Whilst the 400 isn’t that easy to twin disc the 500/550/750 which use the same setup are. I could lock the front wheel on my 500 if I used it hard. I did find the stainless steel discs suffered with water film and severely impacted braking performance as a result. However this was 30 odd years ago and things might have improved since then.
Glad to hear it’s working well for you Mike. 13

IIRC his still has the tool cover fitted, very rare to find that these days.

Quite possibly true Mike. Until it rains that is. Then it's pull and pray time. The other main difference is how it's setup. Brand new it would be ok, as it wore however it got worse, the new ones don't do that due to different design. For it's age it's a ok system, better with another disc fitted though.

Mick is correct. The F and K3 tanks are the same, the 550K1/2 however are the same as the 500K, shorter. Match with the correct seat and like Mick says, they will fit the frame.
