I am surprised you cannot go up steep hills. Is your final drive gearing correct? Something doesn't sound right. Is it running on both cylinders? etc
I used to have a cb250k (similar to the G) years ago and it plodded up hills very well.

I would agree with your comments, the brake is not bad. The feel is not great but the effectiveness is more than adequate.
To convince myself I set up an emergency stop test on a quiet country road. I placed a marker at the side of the road, turned round and rode a good distance away, such that I could turn round again and approach my marker at 60MPH. At the marker I applied the brakes fully to come to an emergency stop and took note of the overall stopping distance. I was very pleased with the result and it improved my confidence in the bike.
Things I have found helpful are; correct adjustment, incidentally brakes seem to squeal more when correctly set up, braided hoses and replacement master cylinder, the latter making the biggest difference.

I wear leathers, gloves, armoured trousers and bike boots even if I just go to the village to go to the shops. Last Friday when I came home from riding to work, 40 mile round trip, my shirt under my jacket was completely soaked and getting trousers off was very difficult. I would not consider riding in anything less and simply put up with being hot. The heat isn't really any trouble when in motion and much more fun than when it is raining, foggy or icy as it will be again in a few months time.

Should we not also consider the temperature of the oil and it's viscosity at start up, a critical time for the engine. I certainly would not want 20w50 in a cold engine in the winter. (Perhaps you don't ride in winter?)

Agreed, they don’t have seals and I would not fit them. Have never had problems and would be concerned that I’d you did fit after market ones, they might not stay in place.

Rode to Hereford through Wye Valley to visit my friend in hospital, wonderful ride there and back, 220 miles fabulous sunshine. Unfortunately had a puncture in Hereford and had to stay over. Someone had put a 2.75 x 18 innertube in the back (furious) and it had burst, luckily while parked at the hospital.
If anyone is in that area, highly recommend D & R Motorcycles who repaired the loose wheel the next day, lovely people.

I have been riding a CB350K since the mid eighties and have at various times had slides sticking. Personally, I am not a fan of the original carbs. It is possible to fit after market slide carbs in place of the CV type. Many use Mikuni VM30, I have Amal Concentrics on mine. I have found the difference in responsiveness and tickover, starting, everything in fact to be much better.
I know this is not for everyone but might be worth researching and considering.
Also, I have a box of original carb parts which amounts to about four carbs altogether if anyone wants to make me an offer.

Agreed very much, revving like mad is what makes them go. They are a different beast at low revs but when you hit 5.5k, off it goes. They do not like being ridden sedately. I quite like this, makes me feel 40 years younger.

I've been through so many speedometers it is beyond belief. One wouldn't go above 50MPH, another developed an alarming squeal above 30MPH, another, the odometer stopped working and another was so vague, it waved + or - 20MPH whenever it felt like it. I have consoled myself by coming to terms with the fact that speedometers are largely a cosmetic addition to the area above the headlight and now rarely look at it
