Yesterday I achieved a lifelong dream to fly in a Spitfire at Biggin Hill. What a day and what a fantastic experience to fly in a two seater fighter that had seen action in WW11 and had also shot down a ME109. I thought I would just be a passenger but the pilot who is a former Sea Harrier pilot allowed me to fly the plane for a full five minutes with left, right, up and down manoeuvres. The trip was finished off with a victory roll
. I will always remember the noise, vibration and the smell of hot oil and exhaust fumes.
I retire in 3 weeks and this was a perfect retirement present! Shame it was over so quickly, but the flight was captured on two go-pro's in the cockpit so I have the videos as a reminder of a great experience. The hanger tour was also absolutely brilliant.

I would love to get a flight in a Spitfire too. Maybe one day. 😎

On the bucket list, the nearest I got was a Tiger Moth at Duxford.
This fellow was a bit faster
Cheers

Nothing to do with bikes but a beautiful blue sky and the Dakota from BBMF up and about today for maiden flight of 2019 [ Guests cannot view attachments ] It sounded and looked fantastic. Photo taken by a lady that lives along the road from us.

Went on a Dakota years ago, flying out of Staverton. My brother told me afterwards
"That was the first time I've flown"
I told him "That was the first time I've landed"

For those that didn't get to see the Tornados farewell fly by, here is a pic taken by one of the 'professional' photographers that are resident at the fence at RAF Coningsby

Always thought they were fantastic looking aircraft.
Have made a few when apprentice, 3D milled out of billet blocks of Duralumin then hand finished to remove contours. Usually given away to visiting dignitaries and various VIP that came around.
Wish I'd been able to keep one.

tomy mind there are 3 great displays in the year,
the Royal international air Tattoo at Fairford ,between Glos and Swindon on the Cotswolds, perfect for fast jets and modern aircraft.
The Flying Legends ,Doxford, just off the M11,mostly early jets and prop aircraft from the 1930 to mid 1950,,lots of Mustangs,Spitfires,
B25,all that era,
and finally, never to be missed ,The Shuttleworth collection, early aviation, weather permiting ,Boxkite,Bleriot,Moths,Sopwiths
a wonderful day out, this is close the Biggleswade.
anyone fancy a day out
