Which 750 ? Advice Please !
« on: April 27, 2016, 01:26:51 PM »
Hi ll,

Just wondering if there are there any 750's to avoid ?  I've run out of projects and to avoid decorating and gardening, I'm considering another bike and I'm thinking that a 750 would be a great bike for the wife to pillion on as and when the sun appears !  Are there any common problems, or specific models to avoid ?  Any common issues with US bikes etc etc ?

Any help & thoughts would be appreciated !

I also have no space left in my garage and not much more cash, so any recommendations on bank robbery and/or Tardis construction would also be appreciated.

Andy

Personally I avoid anything before the K2 and after the K6 as a project. The K2 in my opinion is the best because at that stage Honda had sorted out all the teething problems. The 750 F1 is a good bike but, the F2 has PD carbs that are a nightmare.
USA 750's engines are more of a problem due to lack of oil changes but, you can find this on UK units.

They are pretty robust engines, as with any bike have a good listen to it running, in good order they don't make too much mechanical noise but even clattery ones seem to run and run, regarding the tardis it's a good idea re space and also you'll have as much time as you want to carry out the restoration , go for it!
Suzuki GT250A (Nostalgia)
1977 K7 CR750 (lookalike, what of I’m not sure)
Ducati 900SS (Soul & Speed)
Ducati M900 Monster (Handling & character)
Thruxton 1200 (suits me)
James Captain 197 (pure adrenaline, i.e. no brakes!)

Or transport yourself in said Tardis back  to the 60 / 70's - no need to restore!
One day I'll have the time to restore it, not just talk and dream....

f1 f2 and k7 are cheapest, a reasonable f1 or k6 would probably be best money wise and would make the best daily rider,
k0,s are the ones that kicked it all off and are sought after worldwide hence the prices

As trigger says k2,s are really good , not quite as desirable as k1 or k0, but they are starting to fetch big money as well, as for relability they are all good, the ones that are the biggest ppain in the butt are k7 and f2 with there bloody lean burn pd carbs, f2 being the fastest sohc750, k7 having the best refined engine
so there you have it
