Which cb500 four should I buy?
« on: May 17, 2016, 04:49:50 PM »
First post!

Sorry if you are allready oversaturated with these "help me" posts, in that case feel free to remove it. :)

Basically, I'm in the market for a 70's CB500 four and am currently looking at these two:

http://m.finn.no/mc/all/ad.html?finnkode=75649170

http://m.finn.no/mc/all/ad.html?finnkode=75591278

The classifieds are in norwegian, but they read basically as follows:

The green one:

-all exhaust pipes changed 5 years ago
-dual disc brakes from goldwing,
-engine rebuilt with 550 top
-carburetors cleaned
-new suspension in the back and front. progressive front suspension.
-new handlebars, footrests, blinkers, instruments, tail-light etc (he still has the originals and they come with the bike for free)

The blue one:
-complete engine rebuild in 2014
-new rear suspension
-new handlebars
-new seat

The blue looks a bit cleaner, owned by a guy with little mechanical experience and is fitted with more original parts, the green one has been upgraded for performance and comfort by a guy who gives the impression that he knows what he is talking about, having modified a lot of bikes etc.

I want a bike for daily use, not for collecting.

The price is pretty much identical, so which one do you think would be the best deal?

Thanks :)

for regular use,the first looks good,

looking at 46K and 20K,both just run in,

 the blue does look pretty,

go on,spoil your self, get both, and run on alternate days

Hi

Blue gets my vote, but you'll need to do something with those bars.

About 3700€, which seems to be the going price for these bikes in good condition here in Norway.

Haha, I would love to! But finances won't allow it I'm afraid!

Indeed, the bars look pretty bad.

Any reason you would go for the blue one, apart from looks?

The green one has both the engine upgrade and double disc brakes, so I guess it has the lower parts of the forks from a 550 too.

I have to say this is what pulls me to the green one, as both are upgrades I would love to do myself later on. Especially the brakes!

As for mileage they both seem to have changed instruments, so not sure I can trust those numbers..

Plus 1 with Oddjob. That seat is just awful, the sort of thing Americans do to Honda's.

Blue any day , if you are going for a classic go for originality. Green has been messed with way too much

But lose that seat !!!

Both of them have a repaint which is not a candy colour. They are both plane metallic colours.
Just saying...
