Oil pickup question
« on: May 18, 2016, 09:17:46 AM »
Hello good people,

Just a quick question regarding the oil pickup in a cb400f.

What is the function of the spring that is inserted between the oil pick up and the casing? is it critical? Mine is missing for some reason.

Thanks, Ryan

If you are referring to the spring which fits between the strainer cone and the lower engine case, it's there to ensure that the strainer is always in good contact with the metal plate screwed to the sump pan.  This means that any large particles are trapped by the strainer and can't get between the strainer and the wide end of the cone and into the oil pump.  Part number is 15157-333-000

David Silver or Steve at 400/4 parts should be able to help - same part as 350/4 too

Steve has a pickup complete with spring listed at the moment.
His site is at http://www.400fourbits.co.uk/.
