Tensioner slipper
« on: June 15, 2016, 07:29:38 PM »
Hi Chaps, bit advice needed here, CB400F.
Fitting a new camchain and tensioner slipper while the engine is apart but the slipper seems very tight, its about a half inch above the head surface and it needs to be heavily compressed to get the holder bolts in. I'm wondering if theres something wrong. I'm pretty sure its located in the horseshoe correctly.

Thanks
Steve

This one looks a good possibility.

Is the tensioner pushrod fully retracted with the locking bolt lightly tightened and holding it in position?
If not, the end of the tensioner horseshoe/ arm will be too high ....

Easiest to lock the rod against the spring tension when the half cases are apart.
Maybe someone else has done it after assembly though?

Interesting thread..
I fitted a new tensioning bolt kit from knocksnrattles when I had the bottom end apart, and I locked up the plunger so that it wasn't acting onto the horseshoe. I'm pretty sure the blade is located in the horseshoe correctly, its "springy" and theres resistance if I try and lift it as it lifts the horseshoe I think. I can get the bolts in by compressing the slipper and I can see the chain tension up. I fitted it into the horseshoe with the barrels on so I could engage it properly as per manual. Is it possible to pull it out and try and relocate it with head fitted ?

I'm still not convinced its wrong... all new parts maybe its just tight ?

I didn't know Julie, just tried using the search facility on the forum - it's really useful and often does the trick if you manage to pick the right search term then look through the results.
Searching on 'slipper' didn't find the relevant thread I wanted but searching for 'tensioner' did the trick.

I did try that Chris and a load of relevant threads came up but as I was trying to cook dinner at the same time, I had to give up looking through the list  ::) ::)
