Strange oil leak
« on: June 16, 2016, 11:30:43 AM »
Hi guys I have a strange oil leak on my 76 550f, when the bike is run a small puddle of oil forms around the front left hand rocker cover bolt. Their are no signs of leaks anywhere on the head, barrel or rocker gaskets just by this one bolt. Any ideas? Cheers gordon

Not uncommon in that spot. You can remove the little cover and take a peek. I had it leaking there, replaced the two O-rings and all was fine. Be aware there are some rare (aluminium?) washers behind that cover. You may study the parts list of your model first so you'll know what to expect. http://www.honda4fun.com/pdf_parts_list/pdf_spac550/CB550F_F1/CB550F_F1-1.pdf Go to page 9 that depicts Cylinder Head Cover. The O-rings are listed as 20, the rare washers are 13 and 16 where leaking is also possible. Success.

Cheers that's a spot on reply. Looks like it will be the 13 washers in that diagram. Any idea where to start my hunt? Cheers gordon

You can use copper washers as long as they are thick ones

Isn't it item 16 that's the alloy one &  13 ones are steel as used on CB750? Or are they all alloy?
