Carb base settings
« on: August 10, 2016, 10:31:36 AM »
Hi All.

I have fully rebuilt the carbs with an ultrasonic clean and vapour blasting. I have installed new jets an re-platted and polished the parts that needed it.

Having re-assembled everything does anyone know of the base settings I should be using in order to start the bike?  The manual gives the range of the idle screw settings but is there also a setting for the balance adjusters to start from? I have presently screwed all mine right down. I have checked the on-line shop set up manual for clues with no joy.

Does anyone know where the 'special' tool can be bought from that allows the balance nut to be undone and the centre screw to be turned at the same time? I remember this was a Honda special tool years ago.

Any help would be appreciated.

Start by turning in the idle adjuster till a slide starts to lift and then use a 1/8 (3mm) or smaller drill bit as a feeler gauge to set them all the same.

original 500 tool was 07908-3230200 but i think this was changed to the 650 one
and i think i have seen something on the M and P site EDIT just checked try this link

Dave,

Carbtune also do the tool you're after.

Worth giving the carb bodies a good blow out with carb cleaner / air if you've had them blasted including all the small air passages in the throat of the carbs that supply the idle circuits and emulsion tubes - they're great places for the glass beads to hide and then block small holes !

Thank you both, very helpful and going out to set the carbs now.
The adjustment tool is the same on both sites. The M&P item is £4 cheaper.  I have one on order.
