They're fairly easy to work on - none of your modern surface mount pcbs you need a magnifying glass for. I've got a valve set in my shed, great sound and all that but there's nothing to listen to anymore. I'm toying with having a DAB input or connecting it to a CD player.
This 500/4 guru in York with an absolutely pristine CB500K1 gave James and myself info on early 500's. I emailed him about what finish he had on a couple of the parts and he said no problem, I'll check. it's sitting right next to me in my lounge!
