Strange thing happened today.
« on: September 18, 2016, 09:39:26 PM »
Today I decided to drain the tank and carbs for winter storage. After emptying the tank I moved on to the float bowl drain screws. I removed  the two left screws and then went to undo the right hand side when I noticed what appeared to be an oil drip on the crankcase, on the outer drain screw there was a another drip forming. The screw was tight and there was no sign of any fuel leak. Is it possible for oil to enter the float bowl?  When I did undo the drain screw nothing but petrol came out. Bit baffled.

Could be oil vapour from the rocker cover breather condensing on the tap. Check the condition of the breather hose (if fitted, some people don't bother with one!) bend and twist it gently looking for signs of cracking, and that the wire securing clip is fitted. Any looseness or cracking could well be the cause.
If it's got tits or wheels, it's hassle, if it's got both, RUN!!!

Thank you. I did have a quick feel around the carbs and couldn't find any evidence of oil but will have a better look before the bikes sealed up in its vac bag.
