Headlamp lens markings .. which market
« on: October 01, 2016, 09:42:15 AM »
Trying to sort out headlamps for all of my bikes , some are UK bikes, so imports, some messed with, some have aftermarket units like Cibie.

Anyone know what the markings on the glass mean? Can USA market one used in all LHD countries?
What's the best source for aftermarket ones?

Cheers Pete .. how you keeping?

Interesting on the USA one as my CB500 has USA fitted Cibie which I would like to keep (the Cibie headlights are one part I would deviate from the standard item as original Stanley units were sh*te (Well they were on CB250 & 400/4). One of my original 400/4's had the concave Cibie on it .. superb compared with standard.

Honda USA ones tend to be sealed beam which dip straight up and down not left or right, you may find the Cibie is directional so it wont pass. I find best aftermarket is a 7 inch unit from a car scrapper!!

Had a look at the original one from my 400/4 (now has concave Cibie unit fitted).
That is a Stanley 6-0159, and the one on my CB250 G5 is the same.
The glass pattern is symmetrical so no obvious left or right dip.
Looking at the Parts List the same unit is fitted to UK, Euro Direct, German and Swedish bikes so dip must be straight down.
No idea what the various letters moulded in to the lens mean though.
Bryan's scheme may work for 500s and above but those lamps are too large for the smaller bikes.
Oh, and also glad to hear things are looking up for Pete.
