Just had to share 'Ron Tubby's' pic he posted with Dick Emery on his 'new' CB750 . Note the polythene still on the seat ... wonder if this was a test ride from 'Tippets of Surbiton'.

Well, I don't know how he managed to touch the ground on a CB750. He was slightly shorter than me and I just about tip toe on 1 foot with a good bit of lean on a CB750. Lovely old photo.

I think that, looking at the registration number, this was the CB750 that Dick Emery actually owned. My friend (who sold his CB750 to Frank last year) had the same bike, in the same colour with the next registration number up!

The reg. BYU 765H (prize in Classic Bike restored by John Wyatt)  was on eBay last year in a dealers C J Ball & Sons in Norwich and I think Frank bought it from him. Yes Dick Emery did own the bike in the B&W picture  I have posted the image off the cover of 1970 MCM many times on this forum.

If Dick Emery owned that bike Ash, why doesn't Frank say anything about it in the ad? Maybe Dick Emery was just out on a test ride, hence the plastic seat cover and never actually purchased the bike.

Dick Emery owned BYU 762H . Frank's bike is BYU765H.  Think Dick Emery's bike is long gone now but his GL1000 is still about.

My friend's CB750 was advertised by CJ Ball initially, as you said and you are quite right in that it is registered 765H and not 763, as my memory told me! My friend bought a new CB1100 EX (now at CJ Ball for new cylinder barrels to be fitted under warranty due to paint flaking off and new spokes due to corrosion) in July of last year.

Frank did ultimately buy the bike and I believe still has it for sale.

The other history mentioned, i.e. restored by John Wyatt and subsequently given as a prize in a competition is correct as well.

Excellent article, I wonder if the red light that Honda Britain didn't recognise is the one between the clocks on the Japanese market versions. What does that do, tell you if you hit a speed limiter?

As a student, I built a 1:6 scale Tamiya model of the Dick Mann Daytona bike, I don't know what happened to it. I just took this pic of 2 Tamiya Hondas in 1:12 scale I built in recent years, an NS500 and an RCV, they could do with a dust, and I'll probably be judged on my taste in DVDs OCD and short sight helps building these, they even have painted valve caps, and are accurate where you can't see, with plug leads, painted spark plugs etc.



I have an unbuilt 1970's  1/12 scale Tamiya kit of the Honda RA273 3 litre V12 (air cooled) 1966 Grand Prix car in the attic, the moment you cut one piece of it's sprue the value has gone, and I'm put off ever starting it by the 12 plug leads, 12 fuel lines etc, all of which you have to cut to size and stick in place using tweezers.

ETA: I don't know if they still make the 1:6 scale CB750, but I just found one on eBay, an ouch! at £295.

Agree really though it was a bit sad of me finding that article. I knew of its existence vaguely but actually getting a scan of the page took a bit of skullduggery as I was thrown a curved ball that it was in an Airfix magazine.

I can always find you an old scan of a 'Bunty' magazine if that's more to your'e liking Julie ...suspect not though!

Bunty, no, but I was in to Twinkle, or Sparkle or whatever it was called, It all seems a very long time ago now 
Graham has just piped up saying insulting your car is all part of the service, along with 2 cups of tea and trade prices on engineering services

I have a Heller 1/8th scale CB750 that I hope to build this winter, now that I've sold the business and (almost) managed to give up work. I think that it cost around £60.00 from a model shop in Norwich when I bought it a year or so ago.
