UK K2 Engine & frame No's?
« on: October 11, 2016, 07:28:08 PM »
I am looking at an UK K2.

It is listed as first registered 18/4/73 and has frame No given as: CB750-20691**. However, the Engine No is given as: CB750E-23051**.

That would indicate that it has been fitted with a 1974 K4 engine? Can anybody confirm/advise if that is correct as the various books I have looked give the 73 K3 engine No's starting at E2000001 and the 74 K4 starting at E2300001?

Thanks

Andy

If you are referring to this ? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/322288040054?_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

If so, it should be a 20 number as it will be a 1972 build but, it has the wrong front end also;)

Guess we didn't get K3,K4,K5 and only K2's during that period? Did the UK K2's have the mods then Graham? It's ab bit like the CB350K1 ... we never got a CB250K1 version here ...   Just K0 then straight into K2

My understanding is that that yes in the UK we continued with the K2 model only and did not receive the K3,K4 and K5 so the frame No's for the UK always remained in the 2000000's series.

However, the engines used were simply from the current manufacturing stock so whilst the frames remained in the K2 series the engines used for each new production year would follow the new K for that year so that in 73 they used the K3 series engines starting with 2200001, then for 74 the K4 series engines starting  2300001 and so on?

If that is correct then the indication is that the bike that I am looking at appears to have had a 74 K4 engine fitted at some time?
