I must admit I was amused like Ash at this when the vendor popped up. Fair do's and welcome, good you had the chance to  protest your innocence!

A really educational post to follow for the trainee anorak. How exciting! ;)

Nice insight Oddjob. I was also guilty of doing things like this at my Honda shop in the 90's. The Fireblade had hit the seen and I was selling them fast, the problem was that Honda had very limited stock of parts for the first blades and a lot of people just couldn't handle them (had one customer crash big time in the car park after picking up his new bike). I would get my max trade discount on the new blades and strip parts for resale, the rest of the bike would go to a mate that had a breakers. Honda cottoned on to what I was up to and the big wagging finger came from japan :(

No wagging finger anymore, went independent years ago. The trouble with any dealership is you are not the boss, they are.

I had trouble getting the front brake light switch from Honda many years ago (the square type that is held by a screw under the master cylinder) I had one sitting on the counter when a customer came in with his wife. she said; I make them at work. I gave her a strange look, she replied, turn it over, it will have ALPS stamped on it. She was right.
Alps electric Europe was only three miles up the road from me. The switch made by them would be sent to Japan in boxes of 1000, they would be bagged and have a part number sticker put on them. Then would then be shipped from Japan to the central parts in Europe before being sent to the warehouse in the UK and then on to me. Bloody long way round and a longer wait.
