What did Honda use to coat forks/engines in the 70's
« on: January 27, 2017, 03:53:32 PM »
Not sure this is the right place to post this but here goes.
I'm restoring a CB250 K2 and I'm currently polishing up the fork legs. The engine will follow.
The forks are coming up great but I'm not sure what's the best thing to coat them with.
Originals have that satin kind of coating but I do like "shiny". What have other people used
and what do you recommend ?
Thanks Andy

If I polish up something I'm going to use in crappy weather, I clear coat powder coat some of my stuff, ask your local powder coater if he has clear.

For a more satin finish I use Scotchbrite and T-cut, which can be clearcoated, though not original.

The problem with coating any fork legs, even with clear powder is, that any stones flicked up will chip away at it. Always better to leave them polished and buff up when needed.
