Here's my 750K5 project.

It looked like this when I bought it.
Carbs were so badly seized that the needles had fused to the top of the float bowl.
Engine was free though.
Every chrome part was rusty but the engine and frame were suprisingly good.
Bars had to go along with that awful seat!!!

Looks a bit different now.
Complete carb rebuild, bought new bars, and a seat.
New oil, filters, plugs, points and condensors, etc etc
Got it running last weekend, all was going well until the oil light came on, then it went out when revved but came on higher up the rev range, revved higher, then light on again.
I'm taking the sump plate off this week and seeing if the oil pump screen is full of debris and maybe service the pump.
if this doesnt cure it then its going to be a complete engine rebuild i suspect.

That is the most fugly seat I've ever clapped eyes on, the mind boggles.   Matches the handlebars for poor taste.   I do hope you've dropped them into your wheely bin and not sold them
Where's that 10mm socket got to?

How could anyone think that was an improvement on the Original bars and seat.
There's having no taste and them there's that.  ;D

Have same seat on my xs750, which is also an import. It is horrible in real life, but sooooooo comfy, but it has to go. If there is debris in the screen, I would change the oil filter screen and then try to clean out the whole engine with cheap oil, see if that cleans out all the built up rubbish. Then recheck the screen for debris again. Now I don't know but someone on here can come in to confirm add some engine oil cleaner treatment to see if that helps, but if you start hearing metal fatigue noises then stop immediately. Then you know it's time for a engine strip down, clean, inspect and replace parts. But someone with more experience will defo pipe in, trigger is your man here

Thanks for the help Mag. I have tried all of that. The screen was really clean, ive changed the oil and the filter, and serviced the pump. The fault is really sporadic so I have just bought an oil pressure tester/guage as I'm starting to think its just the pressure sensor is faulty. Its tonights evolution so I'll let you know. ;D

I would check the wire from the oil pressure switch for any chafing or other damage to the insulation, follow the loom up to where it enters the warning lamp. Any damaged insulation allowing the bare wire to touch any part of the frame or engine will cause the light to come on while it's running. If the wire is sound, change the oil pressure switch, they do fail intermittently occasionally. That could well be the cause of your symptoms, as worn mains or big ends make rumbling or knocking sounds, if you don't hear those noises, change the switch, it's much easier than tearing down the motor to find there's nothing wrong inside, and even less hassle than fitting a pressure tester!
If it's got tits or wheels, it's hassle, if it's got both, RUN!!!

Thanks Hairy git. The engine sounds fine apart from a bit of noise from the primary chain. I have changed some of the wiring as I needed to change the handle bars so I will go through this first. I have bought a new sensor so will probably change that anyway. Thanks again.

Been struggling to start my bike, refurbed the carbs, changed leads, plugs, points, timing is spot on, etc etc. Thought I would check the compression. only 65 PSI per cylinder.
I suppose thats what you get for buying a bike that hasnt turned a wheel since the 80's.
So engine out, valve relap and piston rings and honing i suppose.

While I'm tempted to agree with you I'm afraid I think that title belongs to this one currently for sale on eBay...
