Cam Chain Adjuster
« on: June 11, 2017, 04:24:04 PM »
Hi all,

I am rebuilding my 400/4 engine after complete strip down, engine case clean up.
didn't notice on strip down but looking at cylinder head cam chain pivot I have discovered the housing has a nut welded between it and the bracket as attached photo.
Anyone any idea why, and if its ok to fit as is.

Someone has bodged that by welding a nut between the cup and the plate in an attempt to increase the tension on the back slipper blade.   Best to bin it and add it to the David Silver order.
Where's that 10mm socket got to?

Mike is right, i will lay odds that the horseshoe is siezed/damaged and the tensioner pad siezed/springs weak

On further inspection I've noticed there is no pivot insert in the horseshoe so maybe it's been done to take up the slack with the blade just dropping in the empty cavity to save a strip down !

Oh, great idea.
To adjust the camchain just weld more nuts on.
