Warning light bulbs
« on: July 01, 2017, 06:03:41 PM »
Has anybody tried the LED warning light bulb replacements like these on eBay   http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/10-x-BA9S-T4W-LED-BULBS-TWIST-FIT-Smiths-Interior-Gauge-Dash-Classic-Car-MG-12v-/182614915076?hash=item2a84b27804:g:b9kAAOSwE0JY9S7s     If so, did they work okay?

Yes I have them in my 750f they light the clocks better but on the dash jewels they shine more of a spot through the jewel rather than generally lighting the jewel. It also shows if the lamp holder is not smack in the centre of the jewel. Depends how fussy you are on such things.

Thanks moorey. Did you fit the multi LED's or the single spot uplight type?

If the led when tested runs cool with no heat buildup then you can use something like a white gluegun stick to cover the light / diode face in a little dome to get a more diffuse light output.

Will make them look less directional behind the jewel lenses.

I've had them on my C90 for a couple of years now, the only downside I found is where the run so cool they the condensation that you get in the speedo standing in bright sunshine doesn't go away like it does with conventional bulbs that get warm, so now and again I nick Mrs Hairy's hairdryer and heat the speedo with it!

Heat dispels the moisture and stops the condensation that occurs otherwise!

All multi's as the singles were not available then, but would fit the singles under the jewels now as they will be shorter. Multi's are good for the clock lights. I will now get some singles.
