CB550K3 PD46A Carb problems

Hi

I have now put the carbs back on the bike, from the advice given before I have replaced the main jets, the slow running jets and the float valves. I haven't replaced the needle valves though.

I set the float heights to 14mm as described in a PD46A overhaul document I found on line.

I started the bike on the choke and over the next minute or closed the choke and the bike ticked over at about 1000 rpm. When I opened the throttle the bike cut out. I restarted the bike (without the choke) and it raced up to 3800 rpm and stayed there. Everytime I started the bike after this the engine raced up to 3800 rpm and stayed there.

I have the carb to air filter connector attached but no air filter.

Can anyone give me any advice before I rip the carbs out and strip them down again?

Have you tried adjusting the idle speed with the idle screw?

Hi,

Yes, the throttle idle screw for all four carbs is backed right off until it has no effect.

The individual idle screws are set to one and a half turns.

I suspect there are two problems here, but any ideas would be welcome.

Have you got any slack in the throttle cables?

Do the carb's have the choke cable going to handlebar, if so,  again is there slack there when closed?

If you set the slide heights to a slide that was slightly open they wont close properly
