With my interest in classic cars, and as an accountant, I know all about supply and demand. The more people want it, and the more restricted the supply, the higher the price, which is why we get Ferrari 250GTOs at £20 million plus a pop, only titled owners of large earthmoving equipment companies and Pink Floyd drummers need apply, the rest of us just can't have one.

No bike (or handbag!) is 'worth' £140k+, but if lots of people want it and the supply available = one unit, ever, then it goes to the person with the deepest pockets.

Due to the horrendous weather I didn't go to the auction, and watched it live with you guys, but whoever bought it, I hope to get to see it 'in the flesh' sometime.

Interesting to see bidding stalled a bit at £65k, someone probably thought they had a bargain for a while!
The auction didn't have the intensity of a Fast & Loud Gas Monkey auction either  8)

evidently gone to someone in the UK who collects CB750's so we may at least see it again.

Sorry Steff I honestly don't know, he wasn't known to any of the big players in CB750's who were there , Mr. Wyatt, Freddie, ChrisR, DS etc etc. You can picture the poor bugger who initially 'won' it on the phone/internet .. The hammer comes down..it's yours..you are hollering around the room feeling pleased with yourself after all of that stress, then go back and see that the auction re-started and someone in the room bagged it. Perhaps I should  just put those carbs in a glass display case in my living room. ;D

Unless you can sell them to the new owner of the prototype for appropriately silly money (he obviously has very deep pockets, or did till last Sunday) that's what I'd do - your own (almost) unique bit of Honda history and it didn't cost you £160k!

Did they really drop the hammer then re-start the bidding?

I watched and drew exactly the same conclusion Mick. It Looked like the auctioneer accidently dropped the hammer as he ’hammered’ the last bid. Not exactly professional eh.??

Correction. As he hammered the microphone attached to lecturn dropped to the floor. That I suspect is where the confusion arose as he then proceeds to carry on. My question is if he hammered (even if in error) surely that marks the end of the auction???
