Main bearing shells
« on: April 10, 2018, 10:09:02 PM »
When I get back home I am ready to put my engine back together, I have had difficulty finding the numbers on my crankshaft, I will have another look but I was thinking of measuring the thickness of the old shells to see what colour they are, I will also check the new ones with plastigage, what are the availability of the different shells can they still be got, I got these dimensions from the American site.

Yellow inserts (the thinnest) are 1.490 to 1.486  mm thick

Green inserts are 1.494 to 1.490

Brown inserts are 1.498 to 1.494

Black inserts are 1.502 to 1.496

According to the book there are also Blue and red bearings does anyone have these sizes.

DS has Red Green and Brown listed, and Yamiya has Brown and green, there doesnt seem to be Black available, I got the colours from the Honda service manual that was downloaded in 4 parts it also has a Yellow shell listed as well as blue,  but lists the chart in sizes rather than codes on the case and paint on the shaft, Im sure I read somewhere that they later done away with some of the colours, I think this book is very old as it is for the 350 with a 400 suplement.

I have read about blue shells but, never seen any or, have ever came across them. Maybe it was the ones that were dropped in the early years.
