New CB750K6 camchain
« on: June 01, 2018, 03:39:28 PM »
Hello,

I've just fitted a new camchain to the CB750K6. It was from Dave Silver so should be o.k., but it seems very tight, even without the camchain tensioner fitted. The engine turns over O.K. but I'm surprised the camchain is this tight- is this normal for a new chain? If I move the camchain tensioner arm with my thumb it moves about 1/8".

       Cheers, MikeJ.

Mike - what’s the specific DID part number (printed on the box). Need to know the number of links / size of chain.

That would be the correct number of links for a 750 (219T 94L). Was this an endless chain or one that you split and then riveted a master link?

Hello, it was an endless chain,

    Cheers, MikeJ

P.S. I've just counted the links and there are 94. The engine is standard (although it's fitted with a K2 barrel) and the chain fits well on the upper sprocket so it looks like it's the correct chain.

Two types of DID chain for the 750.
219T 94L and the upgraded one is 219FTH 94LE  ;)

A K2 set of barrels is not a good match with a K6 head, what cam guide are you using ?

You are not helping me to help you. My crystal ball in the bottom of my tool box is on its last legs today ;)
I need to know what cam chain, 219T 94L and the upgraded one is 219FTH 94LE  ?
What guide blade you are using ? Just because it came with a K engine, does not mean it is the right one.
And why you have not got a barrel to head match ?

Hello, I just like being mysterious!

The cam chain box is long gone, but the receipt says 14401410003P  68119094  DID. I bought the engine s/h from America, so don't know it's history, but the camchain guide looks like a K6 (ie. a longer 'tang') and it's a K6 engine, although may have been worked on previously. The engine was really corroded on two cylinders, beyond reclaim, so I bought the replacement barrel and pistons as a s/h set . It's an early barrel as it doesn't have the recesses for the stud seals at the cylinder head joint. I've fitted a new camchain and tensioner with rollers. The head was also replaced as one spark plug was 'welded' in by corrosion.

          Cheers, MikeJ

Will need a pic of the chain to ID which one it is.
The head and barrels may not be a match, which will give you problems.

I'll get my son to photo the chain when he surfaces. Are there any defining differences between the chains? The one fitted has waisted links if that helps,

     Cheers, MikeJ
