cb500/4 front brake
« on: November 03, 2007, 10:19:50 PM »
Has anyone sucessfully put a wheel with a twin leading shoe drum brake into a cb500/4 or cb550? and if so what did you use and how good is it?  I used to have a bike (cb350k) with a TLS drum brake years ago and it was excellent and would lock the front wheel if pulled hard which is something my current disc brake will never do.  I know it might seem like a retrograde step but i'm sure it could work.

Hi Florence,
Sounds like a mighty expensive way to improve (maybe) your front brake, I had a Kawasaki Mach III with a TLS front brake and was glad when I swapped to a CB750 with a front disc. What have you tried to improve your front brake, have you rebuilt your master cylinder, or considered changing to a more modern one, how is your caliper piston/seal have you got braided hoses, is there any air in the system (fit speed bleeders is a good idea). Unless you spend a lot of money on a racing TLS it might be cheaper to overhaul and upgrade your existing disc.

Cheers

I had a CB350K4 with the TLS front brake and wasn't too impressed with it. I found the single disc set up much better.
