K2-K6:
I saw those vids HG and think anyone would agree that things like that should be prevented.

A mate got stopped by one of those (he drives car transporters) and they showed him the incriminating footage filmed from tractor unit passenger seat,  of him driving..........without a seatbelt..........there was no "don't be a knob" or "come on, be sensible mate we don't want to attend an accident with you injured " or anything like that.  Just a straight fixed penalty ticket and nothing as sensible as telling him that if caught again he'll be ticketed. He's one of the most conscientious drivers I know regarding risk to other road users.  That just seems the wrong way to deal with things and brings resentment that should be avoided.

I have even stopped using hands free as i saw a report that it still distracts your attention enough to be dangerous, although i am a driving instructor so will always be extra cautious.

MCTID:
When I was teaching Safety Courses on the Railway a few years ago I advised the real cost to Society for a death was approximately £1.5 MILLION. It was a commonly accepted figure throughout the HSE fraternity, but hardly any of my Students got anywhere close when challenged to guess a figure.

Another little snippet I used was the fact that when using a Mobile whilst driving a car your reaction time was slower than if you were over the Drink Driving Alcohol Limit. Again, most Students had no idea that this was the case.

Around 1993 I had two mobiles in my job visiting LU Stations to audit Contractors working on the Railway. Driving through London in the early hours I once answered the 'On Call' mobile to give some advice to a member of our Station Staff. When I finished the conversation I pulled over and found that I had no recollection whether the last set of Traffic Lights I had driven through were Red or Green.

From that moment I have never answered a mobile whilst I'm driving.......I don't have a 'Hands Free' facility because I firmly believe that driving requires 100% concentration........I don't usually listen to CD's or the Radio whilst driving for the same reason, but that is a personal preference.

To work on the Railway, you have to attend a Training Course every two years, taking an examination BEFORE you commence the course. If you fail, your 'Training Certificates' are taken off you and you cannot work on the Railway until you take another course and pass the standard required. I never had any problem with this as you should not be in a dangerous environment if you don't meet the required standard.
Conversely, I passed my Driving Test in 1967 and no one has ever asked me to take any further tests or training to either improve or test my driving skills.........which I think is absurd. Holding a Driving Licence is a privilege, not a right........but every day we see idiots driving about who should not be allowed behind a wheel or the handlebars of a lethal weapon.
Sorry my view is a bit long winded, but it's backed up by 51 years driving experience.

I saw £1.2M per fatality and also read the report about hands free use being worse than drinking.

Many of my mates use Bluetooth setups and answer the phone on their bikes.

I don’t. Bike time is my time

I have never used a phone wile driving and will never use hands free. If you've seen my phone you will know why  ;D
I can't employ anyone because I can't find anyone that can live without there phone glued to there ear.

Why anyone would even consider a phone conversation wile riding a bike I don't know.
Bike time is precious to me and its getting rarer due to work and its my time where I can switch off and forget everything  :)
