hi there could some one help , i have just got my hands on a 1977 honda 550 ,still needs some work doing but was running when i got her , however she is running rich,  and will not run with an air filter, and is now only running on 3 cylinders can any one recommend the best type of plug, and leads, the engin has had a rebuild by the former owner any tips or help would be appreciated

Welcome!

A few questions:

Where are you?

How do you know that it's running rich? Does it bog down? Does it run without the air filter? Is the air filter completely shagged? Are the plugs black and wet?

Do you have a manual?

Plugs should be DR8-ES: you can get them from David Silvers.

You can't change the leads as they are integral to the ignition coils. You can change the plug caps though.

Hi there, This bike has been  the topic of conversations on this sight formerly owned by martin GG  (Martin 4 Bikes )   
he has completed the engine rebuild and i have now purchased the bike .
but bike will not run with air filter fitted (new)  it dose however have a motad exhaust,  could this be adding to the problem?  Many thanks Zorro
