Gasket set where from?
« on: September 29, 2018, 07:00:01 PM »
My head gasket is weeping oil and getting worse although the bike still pulls like a train.

Where is the best place to get from, any makes to avoid?

Could i get away with just changing head gasket or will removing the head disturb the base gasket?

Thanks.

Cylinder comes off in frame and base gasket is in top end kit so i always rekon might as well change that and base o rings. Are you sure the leak is head gasket as it is relatively common to get an oil leak from under the steel bracket at the end(s) of cam cover where a soft sealing washer should be between bracket and cover.

I did have some decent gasket sets i imported from the US if you wish i will see if i have any left

Ref SteveW's post about gaskets.
I am starting my first 550 strip down and am going to need a full gasket set. Are there any recommendations of the best place to buy them?
Thanks Bill W.

Bill the only difference between the 500 and 550 sets is the clutch cover gasket

Are the head and base gaskets not different as well Bryan due to the different bore sizes?

Been out for a ride today, done 75 miles.

Here are a couple of pics of the leak, does this look like head gasket starting to go?

I am just rebuilding the top end of a 550F and only have a 500 gasket set and was thinking that. Thought I would have to mod. Thanks for that!
Infuriatingly every 550 top end gasket set I have bought has not included the 6 "pucks", every 500 one has. They are expensive to buy singly.
