wheel bearing retainers

hi im having trouble fitting bearing retainers in my front and rear hubs due to some ham fisted git center punching the threads during production, does anyone have any ideas how to fix this problem, obviously i dont want to be having to buy new hubs or giant taps. cheers jim

The best bet is to drill out the punch marks before you remove the retainer, however if the retainers have been removed without drilling they will probably be damaged. The only way then that I know of is to use some very fine files and clean out the threads.

Those punch marks are standard on all Hondas and it actualy tells you in the Honda manual to drill them out before removing the retainer.

You can salvage the hubs with patience and a thread file but will probably need new retainers
