Spring for calliper adjuster wanted
« on: July 22, 2019, 04:36:02 PM »
Hi I need another one of these. its no 337 in the parts list and part no 45119-333-00.
Does anyone have one that they are prepared to sell. Maybe there is another identical part for a Honda which will do.

   you don't really need it,

the brake will work just as well,or even better without it,

it was a mod in the late 70's to remove them

It did seem a bit superfluous when I dismantled the system.

Thanks. Ill leave old one in and see how I go

There you go, then: one vote for "you don't need it," and one for "it's fairly important."

My experience tends to be that Honda didn't fit things for fun, there was always a reason for doing so.

Like the push throttle cable.  It's to reduce the revs when it goes up to 2500rpm at traffic lights.
Where's that 10mm socket got to?

With or without the spring the brake is not the best  :)

If your not doing a all out restoration you can get a box of assorted compression springs for less than a fiver through your door off eday

Like the push throttle cable.  It's to reduce the revs when it goes up to 2500rpm at traffic lights.

If you need to do this then something fundamental is wrong with setup of carbs and cables.  Honda are very specific on this with detailed amount of free play in the pull cable because the safety cable "push" is generally non adjustable.  It just sits there doing nothing until an emergency need to close it may come along.

Brake spring just pushes the fixed (non hydraulic) pad away from the disc until it reaches the clearance you've set with the lock screw.  But overall brake pad retraction is controlled by the action of the hydraulic seal and how clean/free the hydraulic piston moves.

The spring doesn't overcome a sticking piston and the brake will drag anyway if that's the case.

Swinging, sliding single piston calipers don't now generally use any spring return facilities after this original Honda design. It does seem a bit of overkill and won't really hurt operation,  but to have it correctly installed seems desirable as you don't have to make any decision about what you are modifying.

There's one on eBay at the moment.

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Honda-NOS-CB350-CB360-CB400-Caliper-Adjust-Spring-45119-333-000-d-30/391911976705?hash=item5b3fc62f01:g:c7oAAOSwmkpZ7hkR
When I saw that the first thing that sprung to mind was the £12.00 makes an expensive spring!
And then the £13 postage on top!

DSS sell the 500 return spring at a lot less than that one. I don't know if it fits yours though. Part number 45119-300-020 and looks like below.
