Headlight & Engine
« on: January 15, 2009, 11:22:47 AM »
Bit of info please,  Noticed a couple of things on my 650Z which doesn't seem stock.??? the engine seems to have had a factory black paint job, any idea's on this one. ie normal. ??  if not what process would i need to go through to get back to stock.
Also the headlight bracket, not original i think.???  how hard is it to find original.
Sorry about all these questions but this is the first time i'v tried  anythink like this.

Thanks Dave.

Personally, I've never (yet) seen a SOHC 650 with a black engine, my nighthawk is black but that's the DOHC engine, I've had parts in the past that were painted black and they were cleaned using paint stripper, but if it's annodised (I think that's the Term) i don't think it can be polished out.

Looks like the kind of paint job a lot of my cb550 engines have been treated to by previous owners, I've not bothered trying to shift it as the bikes works as well with or without. I think classic motorcycle mechanics mentioned a blasting company that is willing to shot blast complete bike engines after very carefully masking bits off. I'd recon that would bring things back to bare alloy, finish depends on blast medium, eg sand, walnut or iron oxide etc.
Got a 500/4 with rust and a sidecar and loadsa bits. nice and original and been round the clock

Hi Dave, don't know of any that had black engines as standard.

Headlamp brackets are wrong, std ones should be easily available off ebay, there's often people breaking 650's. They look like this...
