Warm-up time for the CB750
« on: March 25, 2009, 02:40:59 PM »
Could anyone help with the warm-up time on my CB750, I had a CB350 20+ years ago that took about 5 miles (normal road conditions) before it was really lively

Thanks Alan

Depends on the year, the 77 onwards being worse than the early ones, not as critical as the old 350 which would shatter rings if pushed hard from cold

Our CR750 takes about 5 minutes to wam up and the oil dose its job better when warm.
As Bryan was saying, pushing a motor that is not warmed up can damage the rings and bore and can even cause a cold siezure, this is where the aluminium piston expands quicker than the cast iron liner od block.
Warmed up motors last longer. ;)

Sam. ;)

While I was doing my IAM training, my instructor/observer was a independent tyre fitter and we had many interesting discussions about tyres (funnily enough).

He told me once that it takes as long for your tyres to warm up properly as it does for your engine.

So pushing tyres that are not properly warmed up could be as bad as pushing the motor!
