CB400F2 with different electrics?
« on: March 05, 2020, 02:51:06 AM »
I just saw the pictures for a really clean CB400F2 on ebay and noticed that the underseat picture was showing different electrics to my own, is this bike modified? See pic.

May be a combined electronic reg/rec

It looks like someones upgraded the rectifier with an aftermarket universal one. No reason why it wouldnt work ok as its only taking the a/c and converting it to DC to feed the electrics. It probably got better control over the output that the old one as the shunt-windings of the regulator on the OEM can be hit and miss after 40 years,  compared with a buck-converter Solid-state equivalent on a modern type.

I've fitted the Electrex world unit to my CB350F and it's working fine.

Could the blue box next to the regulator/rectifier be associated with an electronic ignition system?

It seems feasible that if the owner has upgraded the reg/rec  they will have also replaced the points with electronic ignition. 🤔
