Still riding?
« on: April 03, 2020, 03:19:35 PM »
Wondered if you lot are still out riding? seems to me that if you just go for a ride and not interact with anyone it's fine, there are plenty of cyclists about and if you cough in a full face it's going to be a lot more contained than with a cycle helmet! And no, we haven't got it in our house as temps all normal etc etc

I would imagine that riding a motorcycle for pleasure (ie not exercise) would be classed as non essential.

I certainly haven’t ridden mine.

If it’s your only means of transport then go down the supermarket by all means.

My simple take on it is this:  yes, I agree that there are cyclists and dog walker and joggers out and I would dearly love to be out on the bike, especially having recently taken delivery of a new 125 Super Cub but what if I had a puncture, breakdown or, heaven forbid an accident?  That would involve others unnecessarily.  Even here in Orkney, I don’t think it’s worth it unless it was my only means of transport for shopping.

It all depends on weather you accept the risks. What if you breakdown or crash weather its your fault or someone else.
I must admit if I felt beter I would be very tempted. But I don't think I would.
I can hear cars and bikes at the moment being ragged around wich is a bit concerning as all the roads around me are a 30mph limit and I'm close to the village center.

In Slovakia we are not (so far) limited to ride bike for any reason, I did already some rides. Last one (short, just ~20km) yesterday, while testing charging on my 550K1 (still not OK >:()
And on the way nice sunset

Every afternoon there’s a bike run up to the rev limiter on the main road near me.

There’s also an M3/Audi RS type. Their auto boxes make a quite obvious sound when changing - it’s probably the quickshifter auto blipping.

Both v. annoying.

well have to admit I haven't ridden mine since lockdown but lockdown is to minimise social contact and if you have no intention of stopping etc, what the hell? though the point about a breakdown or crash is well made and not something I had considered

Hi Peter,
Initially I hadn’t considered the implications either and when first announced - before lockdown, we said we would just go out in the car and have a picnic away from others, which is very easy up here but are just getting on with stuff at home.

I have been riding sometimes to do bits of local shopping and officially, now I'm classed as a 'key worker' having re registered as a RGN, I have a double reason to be out riding. I'm getting bloody desperate now for a proper ride out and this Sunday im planning to do just that.

Nurse Julie I agree and see the advice from ACPO has been clarified a bit, it's ok to drive somewhere 'local' for exercise etc, they are trying to stop the public turning up en masse at known beauty spots, just needs a bit of commonsense applied I think.

Yes Peter and the guidelines of social distancing will be adhered to fully when I'm out riding. Im in no way worried about the risks of riding, ie, breaking down or having an accident, they could happen if I go out food shopping using the car so I don't consider them a risk worth worrying about. I'm usually a very unsociable person when I go out for a ride anyway, so I will be my usual unsociable self on Sunday. Oh, I may talk to Trig as he will be out too but, there again, I may not 😊😊😊😊😊

I'll be riding (going to the shop) when I've got a bike working.   I've still got the exhaust to put back on the 400, but I've been concentrating on spraying up the VT250 bodywork,  which is doing my head in.  I hate spraying.

Being a key worker and having no car, only a bike, I'm riding every day. Only to work, shops and to my old dads to take him shopping.

I’m a very vulnerable person (transplant and cancer) and was going to crack a ride out tomorrow. I won’t be stopping from start to finish so can’t see the harm,
