A great film, I haven’t seen it for years - I first saw it as part of an all night film show when I was a student. I think I saw it again at the cinema in Douglas at the TT, along with No Limit, with George Formby, made long before he got into the grill business.
An old friend of mine has an ex Mert Lawwill (who the film follows) Harley XR750 dirt track racer, with a frame made by Lawwill. He has raced it, it’s hardly competitive against modern stuff, but too good to leave in the back of the garage. I have helped him at a couple of meetings, mainly by running around after him with a car battery and starter motor, which locks onto the end of the crank to fire the bike up. I’ve thought of trying to buy it off him, but heaven knows what I’d do with it. Apparently Lawwill now makes artificial hands for army veterans.
