Almost done but changing colour

K6 lightly cafe'd K6 99% done but after seeing this colour on an Audi, it looks awful! So just ordering some Vauxhall Rock Orange rattle cans to respray - then up for sale to fund 500 build

Look great Phil, I would leave it that colour. Some paint looks crap on big panels but, looks fine on a bike, spray a whole car in Candy custom gold and it looks shite

I fancy Ruby Red but cost is a factor - car colours of similar colour (Renault) are metal flake 3 stage and I'm not confident enough for the 3 stage were I'm ok on ordinary metalic (to the standard I'll accept on a bike I'm not keeping). Do want a bright metalic though

That looks nice but just checked and it's 3 stage and not confident enough with rattle cans - done 2 stage metallic for years with decent results

It's not until you see it painted that the effect becomes clear of the grey tone.

It has "de-saturated" it in colour terms,  a bit like they ran those Ducati adverts some time ago by making all the picture tones monochromatic but leaving the Ducati bright red to really leap from the picture.

Notice how the colour contrast along the top of tank and seat against the green grass gives it back some form.

"Blacking" the tire walls with boot polish and refinishing the tank badge would probably lift it a little.  Less directly flat lighting to give it more contrast and accentuate form would probably help for it's advertising shots too

Anyone done 3 stage from an aerosol with any success?  Or, can anyone suggest a 2 stage metalic that is near to the K1/K2 Candy Ruby Red or the Candy Gold (not sure what thats called!)
Want to get paint ordered this weekend to sort next weekend as away in our first motorhome the week after - we bought it a week before lockdown!

I did this with only aerosols.
It was in 2004 - an experiment.
Tried the same with gold but that didn't work out at all.
Wasn't cheap there were these very small aerosol cans. I needed really a lot of them.

Problem with candy added to clear in aerosols is that it starts to react and doesn't dry properly.
Ah... well. Making candy paint in the first place isn't easy. Getting it propperly on... neither.

Thanks Menno, info from the expert appreciated. My 2 stage metallic is acceptable on a none standard bike (wouldn't have attempted on my original spec bikes) but ok on this build (the original pic of bike is not buffed/polished). Looking for 2 stage car colour similar to these so I can access mainstream proprietary aerosols at reasonable prices. I'll stick to 2 stage metallic - if you have difficulty, I will have 10% chance of getting it right! Thanks again

must admit, I have only ever done the silver basecoat, tinted colour over 2 stage stuff. I guess the devil is in the final layer on top.

I can also remember the days when you could buy decent paint in actual bike colours, with decent amounts of solids in the spray too. Back when all this was just fields, and sweet shops had jars of loose sweets in them, and so on. Ay...kids today cant even spell rickets....

I've almost decided to go for a Vauxhall Rock Orange - have done a colour in thingy on the photo and quite like it
Googled what primer colour to use and inconclusive - just says dark primers for dark and light for light - one site says 'Reds , yellows and oranges can be highly transparent and the base color will change the value/ shading of the color' - what do you think?

Very similar to this colour .
No idea on what code it is but its candy .
And very very near to the original colour of the nos side panels I had ..
As it happens my mate had the candy left from a job he done 10-15 years ago 
I always thought it was somewhere near the  vauxhall colour and also the Ford ranger pick up..
