Silvers electronic ignition

Finally got the 500 pretty much finished.
I bought Silvers electronic ignition as  had a lot of good reports.
The instructions are not brilliant but following as well as I can  I can't get it to do what it is supposed to do .
Am I correct the light should NOTbe on when you line up the 1/4 timing market should only come on when you rotate the back plate anti clockwise?
Mine is on and doesen't go off unless you turn the crank

Hi, I fitted one short ago after about half turn of crank to activate the light comes on then goes out and the next time the light comes on continuing the clockwise rotation the 1,4 should line up if correctly adjusted. That’s probably as clear as mud, but mine seems to be running fine. Good luck! Johnny.

Us “electronics boys” can’t help unless we know what the light is supposed to indicate.

I didn’t have any success setting by instructions either, I just kept rotating crank and resetting plate until it was set.
It is the same as mine. The light comes on with supply interruption, ie spark time.

So basically you set where you think it should be and keep moving until the marks and light match up .

Understand that Steve but Lines 16 says ' turn back plate counter clockwise until the light comes on" trouble is it is already on and you can turn as far as you like it doesn't go out .
Anyway just sorted it as previous post suggested, ignore Chinese instructions and do what you think, worked a treat, just need to balance carbs,

               I put one on my 500k3 because
Oem points are so expensive together with how long it takes to set them up.
20 mins fit and forget.

Seems a bit strange to me putting all those vulnerable electronic components in an environment like that.
Can't see the rating on that electrolytic cap but that will be the first thing to go if it gets too hot and dry's out

I fitted mine a while ago but it doesn't seem to have much built in adjustment, in fact it's rotated round as far as it will go but the bike seems to run fine.

Luddite here, I stick to old fashioned clockwork points, because if I understand how something works I might be able to fix it when it breaks.

As far as I'm concerned, electronics work or they don't, the only fix is a new unit. Which system is more prone to break down in the first place is the debatable bit - no wearing moving parts versus unnecessary complexity. Pre unit BSA twins, for example, you can set the timing with a pencil and a fag paper - you mark the pencil with the required BTDC measurement when it is in the spark plug hole and set the magneto so it lets go of the fag paper at that point.
