CB750 K4 rebore
« on: July 22, 2020, 07:43:49 AM »
Can anyone recommend a company to complete a re-bore on a set of K4 barrels.  Also I'd like them vapour blasted - so if there was somewhere that you'd recommend who can do both the vapour blasting and rebore that would be ideal.

I've read somewhere that companies not experienced in CB750s can use the wrong tolerances for the re-bore? That seems strange as I would have thought a +0.25 piston would just need a +0.25 barrel over and above the standard to the normal tolerances? But is there anything I should be careful to mention to whoever does this work?

Send it to Trigger or take a drive to lincolnshire and hand it over.
Clearances on Japanese bikes is a lot smaller than on british bikes or cars and "normal" engineers dont understand also you should measure every piston for variation, personaly i never found a genuine Honda one to vary but a lot of aftermarket ones can

You're right about the stories from tolerances in these engines. There's a strange resistance from some machining companies in believing that the Honda tolerance can possibly be correct!

On forum,  it's worth a call to "Trigger" as he really knows what he's doing and has the capabilities to carry it out.

As you mention,  the tolerancing for some reason is simple but stubbornly ignored by some working on and experienced with other engines,  they are often very persuasive to your detriment.

Many thanks. That's great.  How do I get in contact with Trigger?

It is the piston to bore clearance that no one can get right. Too less and the engine will seize, too much and it will smoke like a chimney . PM me with the details  ;)
