Welding again but slightly different.
« on: August 12, 2020, 04:31:50 PM »
Something I haven’t seen before. Unfortunately I wasn’t able to ask the PO about the modification as he had passed away (he may have bought the bike like this).
The clamp end of the silencer has been sawn off and welded to the collector box. So the cut off silencer was just butted up against the exhaust gasket on the collector.
The only thing I can think of is that at some point it may have had a different silencer that fitted into the modified collector.

I would like to put the system back to the original set up. This would require the silencer end to be ground off the collector and if useable welded back onto the silencer.
I do have a rotted silencer with an end that could be used if the original isn’t salvageable.

I would tackle it myself but my welding ability is only to the ‘big bracket that no one will ever see’ standard.
So my question is, can anyone recommend a welder in the Cheshire area that could do this job for me?
TIA
