Oxidized and Gray Aluminium.

Tip for all you buffers, found this stuff Mirlon Resin Mesh Pads.
 Mirlon pads are great for this use very fine and ultra fine, finish off by buffing, or Solvol Autosol.

Nice one have to check them out, I tend to use Brillo pads soaked in solvol for polishing out ally bits.

Den, the guys in the States  say that using steel wool on ally will result in tiny bits of steel being rubbed into the surface which then oxidises.

Never seen it myself but thought I'd mention it.

Hi Steve, yes I have seen that one a lot on the other site, I can see their point if you are using plumbers or industrial grade wire wool but as I only use Brillo Pads either wet or with Solvol I've never had a problem. I first started using Brillo pads in the early 70's, once the engine coating started breaking up, I used wet and dry (used wet) to take off the coating, Brillo pads and Solvol to smooth it out and then straight Solvol to buff it up.
