Side panel colour - 75-76 the Yellow ones...
« on: August 28, 2009, 08:33:38 AM »
Ok.....getting (more than) a bit 'anal' here.....&, it's probably of no consequence anyway as it's a 'get out & ride bike', but, the question of side panel colour on the 76 F1 is perplexing me?

Den, in 'my' tank post has shown his Candy Red bike with it's original grey covers.  Den, you've pointed to the "Phantom Grey NH-43" as the 'right' colour for the red bike.  Refs on the net suiggest that 43 is 'now' known as a black ?,......but that doesn't stop it being a grey in reality ;)

The 'On-line' Honda colour identifier states the side covers for the 'yellow' F1 should be "black"......no if's, not buts, just "black".  Honda CMSNL's headline photo shows a bike with silvery grey side panels.....& 99% of bikes you see about have either 'black'....or......yellow, same as the tank !

I have about 20 1976 MCN's many of which have colour photos of the original bike up to & "at launch" but the angle of the shot is always such that it's never quite clear whether it's black, or grey......it' certainly  not as 'silver' as the 'Dutch On-line' parts suppliers bike.

So.....can anybody catagorically confirm which it should be.

Two additional points.....(1) it's good to have so little to worry about in your life that such an issue is worth bothering about !! ::)
(2)......I happen to have some Mercedes "Anthracit" which is a dead ringer for Dens side covers colour left over from my lads Kreidler tank re-spray......they're fresh "black" at the moment......but now would be the time to make them 'grey' if I was going to.... ::)

Hi Nigel,
I'm pretty lucky as I have my bike from new and know what colour the side covers were originally, however if you look at the Parts List for the CB750F and CB750F1 the side covers are all *NH-43* which is Phantom Black.
Check it out on the Part numbers,
83600-392-000ZA COVER, R. SIDE *NH-43*
83700-392-000ZA COVER, L. SIDE *NH-43*.

Cheers

Den

Cheers Den......that is good enough for me 8)

Obviously missed something in the translation when they simply dropped the "Phantom" reference & simply denoted them as 'Black'.....the devil is always in the detail ! don't 'cha find ???!!!

I overcopied the pic of your bike from the other 'string' with a picture of my lads tank & it's just about bang on.

Whats the betting the "can" runs out two 'swipes' short of a finished job !!  ::)

It's done.....bit of a "trick of the light" thing going on.  Askance & in some light they look dark(enough).....in other light they can look as silvery as those in the CMSNL ad.....so probably right :P

If it stops raining....I will take a pic. The fairground ride has truly become Lemon'esque.......... :o
