CB400F2 Carburetor question.
« on: August 21, 2020, 01:01:52 PM »
I'm just starting to rebuild my first carburetor I have hit a couple of problems already. My bike came with repair 4 kits plus I have purchased new floats from DS.

1. The slow running jet binds against the metal part of the float. If I try to insert the jet first the shaft for the floats do not line up with the holes in the carb body. If I fit the float first then the jet not only does it bind on the float but the thread is not properly aligned.

2. have only finger tightened the jet onto the carb body but it does not tighten so I guess the thread is worn/oxidised/ how do I fix this?

Advice please .
PS I have tried the old float/shaft and jet but it still binds ??

In my carbs the idle jet doesn't even come near the metal of the float? Opposite sides...

Sounds like you are fitting it where the fuel cut-off valve goes?
Ignore me, I've just read your post again.

Are you screwing the pilot jet into the threaded hole that is used to secure the float needle seat holder??

I know it’s a silly question but they are the only two holes that are threaded and would make sense why both the float brass bit and the pivot pin don’t fit with the jet screwed into this hole

Best wishes Al

Can you show us some photos?

Thank goodness I did not post a photo it would have been too embarrassing!
I looked at some U Tube video and thought my Carb is nothing like that!
Then I realised as someone has mentioned here I had only started to screw the jet in the hole where the needle seat clamp fits.
All threads good now fits a treat......duhhhhh
