Zinc plating

Hi,
Any recommendations for zinc plating companies?
I've used a couple and not really happy so far so hoping there may be others worth a go.
I'd seen E Williams mentioned somewhere - maybe a magazine article I think - but any suggestions welcome.

Agree Julie ... as long as you are not in a rush  . Have heard good reports of John Street Platers in Sheffield but not tried them out myself yet.

I've almost got all the bits ready so will have a ring around next week.
Spent a fair bit of time cleaning parts as I appreciate this is crucial to getting good results.
Degreased everything then gave all the parts a good session in the vibratory tumbler - great bit of kit for cleaning and smoothing brackets and almost anything else. Only area it doesn't cope so well with is the recess in small flanged bolts as I guess the media I use can't easily get right into the edges.
Then spent a happy afternoon with wire wheels and abrasive mops to tidy up as best I can.
Really hoping for good results this time.

I always strip the zinc plating off chemically before taking to Allenchrome and then bead blast with 0/44 beads (the finest glass bead media sold by Vixen)

I have a set of four new replica carb to air box clips for my Z1A which are either painted or stoved gloss black. Genuine new ones are unobtainable, as far as I know, and are plated with olive drab zinc. As well as being a very effective anti corrosion finish, to me it makes a big visual difference- yes I should get a life, but it’s something I notice straight away.

I have been in touch with a platers in Nottingham who offer this finish but have a minimum order of £40 plus vat, a bit steep for four  clips, does anyone know any better options?

Allenchrome in Pocklington do 'olive drab' but not black. Just tell them how deep colour you need.

On original looking Zeds I’ve seen it’s quite dark but with a definite green tinge. I’ll see if I can find a good photo on the interweb.

The Zinc coating looks a really neat way to restore the steel bits on carbs & the like - then I'm new to restoration.

Sadly I just do a quick wire brush then paint the rusty steel bits with Hammerite Kurust until it turns either black or gun metal blue. I used to use Trustran back in the 1970's but the brand seems to have gone it was great stuff for bluing your firearms.

Not sure Dave  .. worth a call though .. always best to give them a few bits at a time. Colour sound just like I had done to CB500/4 interconnecting clamps on silencers. I also got them to do a really dark olive drab for my 400/4 rear sprocket guard ring thingy

I have used Allen street platers in Sheffield loads of times.
Superb job and done in 3 days and you can barter with them on the door

Found a small company in Stevenage, (MD Platers). Used a few times for various parts. They do not specialise in bikes but it is run by a couple of bikers.

They do industrial stuff, but will do a basket of bits for a reasonable price (usually cash). I have only had bright zinc done, but the parts came out fine.

Used them years ago. Good job done, think they now have a long turn around time.
