« on: September 07, 2009, 05:21:22 PM »
need some info on harness
i have a 1978 cb550k has the horn button with the PA button
i can get a new wire loom for K- k1 pt No 321000-374-000
but 76 model pt No is 321000-374-700
and 550f pt No is 321000-390-000
cannot seem to find pt No for 78 model is the difference just incidental things like the additional PA button if so is it easy to add additional wires to the new loom

I have the 550K3 parts book and it shows the harness as 321000-404-670

The 670 probably doesn't matter as I believe that Honda just used that to identify their supplier (Bryan?)

The 550K (not shipped to the UK but there are imports) was model number 374 and the 550F was model number 390. The K3 was 404

That helps to identify any part number by model.

To the best of my knowledge, all 500/550s had the horn/pass button (unless it was an import) as that was std for the UK. My 500K1 and 550F2 certainly do.

so will the 374 work on my 78 model 550 which im sure is a k3 or is there significant differences in the wiring
if its just a matter of changing or splicing a wire or two that shouldnt be to hard
and the thread  for downloading pars list in here doesnt actually have the 78 model as far as i could see
cheers

The last number is supplier or suppercission code, there are more than minor differences like ignition switch type and location, connector box or rats nest in headlamp shell, one fuse of fuse box, "safety" starter interlock.

The switches are actually no never mind and most will fit any model

for the K3 you are looking at re-furbing the one you have i'm afraid and hope all the plastic blocks are OK as you can replace the spades but cant get the blocks

I did one for a 550k3 onece, wasn't particuarly cheap (cos of using all correct coulor coded wiring) and took at least a day, running in one wire at a time. when the bikes electrics played up I blamed my loom and broke the bike for parts, then found when using the idiot light cluster (un messed with) on another bike that it was the cause of the problems ::)
Got a 500/4 with rust and a sidecar and loadsa bits. nice and original and been round the clock

Those blocks will not plug into the Honda ones but if you need both halves are ok
