Forks - Repo or Rechrome?
« on: October 10, 2020, 11:57:39 AM »
I know this has been covered before but I'll ask again.
Stripping the forks on my 500k2 this weekend and was just going to drive the tubes down to Dynasurf - http://dynasurf.co.uk/ - (had a set of Jota forks that was on a CB1100 Spencer Rep I built done there several years ago and they did a good job). But spotted these - https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Honda-CB-500-Four-K0-K1-K2-Pipe-Front-Fork-New-Reproduction-Part-Made-IN-Japan/362742798412?hash=item547527d84c:g:CDsAAOSwEppUT6gk on Ebay this morning.
I have repo on my 750k2 and the CR Rep with no complaints and now thinking of saving the 80 mile round trip (x 2).
Anybody used these before? I know the general opinion is rechrome - is it because the repo's are inferior chrome or some other issue.
Views appreciated!

Logically, there's only one way to go on this me thinks!
Another question as a result of just stripping forks. My forks have the rod down the middle that screws into the fork cap - which after scanning CMSL schematics, appears to be pre K2 (mine is US import K2) - does this mean its got upto K1 forks fitted or was there a cross over to K2 where earlier forks fitted? (fork ears, etc are K2).

There would of been a change over and knowing Honda it, would not of been with a change of model  ;)

Knackered as in totally knackered or just the chrome knackered?. If its just the chrome, send them to Philpots with the forks and they rechrome them in with the price of the forks.

Thanks Julie - its just the chrome that is bad - do I need to de-rust and polish before sending?

No Phil. You don't need to do any prep whatsoever.

Also Phil, if you send them the rear wheel spindle as well, they will hard chrome the big round flat bit on the end for just a few quid extra. Just put a note in saying you just want the end done and not the whole spindle.

Had mine done with Philpotts. Can't fault the work or the service.

Collect from the door, do the work, and deliver back...and the chrome finish is very durable. Had a set of SV forks done a while back, and the chrome was far better than the stock finish.

Had a few done at Dynasurf now. They are just as good as Philpotts only cheaper. Plus I always send the top nuts and they did them no charge.
